Darren Keane Scores Two Top-Fives in FWT Mini Max Action

"PSL Karting team member completes solid weekend during Homestead Rotax event"

24 Feb 2012

Deerfield Beach, Florida - Making the switch to a CRG chassis with powerhouse PSL Karting for the Rotax portion of the Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT), up-and-coming driver Darren Keane added two strong results to his 2012 campaign. Taking to the Homestead Karting Complex just south of Miami, Florida for the second straight weekend, Keane was able to score two top-five finishes in the ultra-competitive Rotax Mini Max class. Keane's consistent results have him sitting in fifth place in the overall championship standings with one round remaining, and it remains just a matter of time before this hot shoe makes a trip to the podium during the Rotax Max Challenge event.

In a huge class of 54 competitors, qualifying is key to ensure not only a direct transfer to the heats, but a good starting position. Taking to the track Friday for two qualifying sessions, Keane put his PSL prepared CRG in the ninth place for Sunday's race and then turned up the wick for the second session, clocking fourth quick for Saturday's prefinal. Two inside row starting positions set Keane up for solid runs during both days of wheel-to-wheel action.

Saturday saw the Deerfield Beach, Florida resident battled tight competition during the ten lap prefinal race to finish in the fifth place. Holding station during the day's final, Keane came home with a solid fifth place result after the dust had settled. The heat race on Sunday saw Keane advance four positions to take fifth at the stripe. Adding another fifth place finish from the final race, Keane completed another successful run in the Florida sun.

Keane's two top-five finishes from Homestead, along with another fifth and seventh from the series opener in Palm Beach, have him sitting in fifth place in the overall Rotax Mini Max FWT championship standings. Two races remain of the six round series, with the Tour wrapping at the Ocala Gran Prix mid-March. Keane will be back in action for both of the FWT weekends, first in the Vortex TaG Cadet class where he currently sits in second place in the title hunt, set for March 9-11. Again contesting back-to-back weekends, Keane will return to the Ocala, Florida circuit March 16-18 to complete his FWT Mini Max campaign.
